Formerly troubled Rock Band developer, Harmonix, has found a private investor via its sale of ownership to the investment firm Columbus Nova. The investor, based in New York, has consequently established a new subsidiary named Harmonix SBE Holdings LLC and explained that "it is really excited about backing the world-class team that has consistently produced such great games and helping them grow the company and its brands."
The developer experienced various problems with its former owner Viacom since its acquisition in 2006, spurning the media giant's announcement back in November that it would sell on Harmonix after lacklustre sales of its
Rock Band titles.
Harmonix commented on the change of ownership, seemingly positive about the result and its former owner. A statement read:
"Viacom and MTV Networks have been an amazing home for us over the past four years. It's where we launched both Rock Band and Dance Central, worked with The Beatles, Green Day, AC/DC, The Who and thousands of other artists. We want to take a moment to thank everyone in that organisation who helped make these awesome games possible."
Seems like Harmonix is moving back into a position similar to where it started. Excited at the prospect of what the studio will produce from here on? Any thoughts, feel free to post them down below.
