It's official. Naughty Dog is working on the inevitable Uncharted 3, and it will be hitting store shelves late next year.Titled
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, the sequel will focus on themes of betrayal and foul play - from Nathan Drake being deceived by others to Drake doing the deceiving himself. There's even going to be some deception about Drake's own identity. It's deception fever over at Naughty Dog right now!
The studio revealed that
Uncharted 3 will have many improvements over 2009's
Among Thieves, including expansive motion-capture, enhanced backward climbing and the ability to fight multiple enemies at the same time. Online multiplayer and co-op mechanics are also being improved to offer a more rewarding experience.
The story puts the spotlight on Nate's relationship with his mentor from the last two games, Victor "Sully" Sullivan, with a lost city that leads the pair to the Arabian Peninsula and the Rub' al Khali Desert.
Creative director Ann Hennig said that focusing on the desert was a challenge because natural elements like water, fire and sand are difficult to get right in video game animation. "When we first came up with the idea of sand, you see everyone’s eyes light up here and go, 'Yeah, that’s going to be really hard — let’s do it!'"
Co-president Evan Wells added, "We’re a bunch of nerds. We just look for something that will be a technical, artistic challenge, and allowed us to push into an area of the world and history we’ve never tapped into before.”
Entertainment Weekly got the gossip on the game's reveal and had a sneak peek at one of the first areas (hint: it wasn't a desert area). Writer Jeff Jensen said it was "quintessential
Uncharted, marked by dynamic camera work and gameplay that requires you to jump and climb through treacherous spaces that are in an almost constant state of change — or in this case, catastrophic collapse."
As if it could be any other way. A trailer is included on the EW website, go and check it out.
