You may have noticed that several British sources were touting a world scoop on an Xbox spin-off machine called HomeStation.
This little gem was described as a TV set top box with broadband connectivity and the ability to play Xbox games as well as pay-per view features on demand.
Microsoft spoke to us today on these rumours. “There are no plans to make any kind of set top box compatible with Xbox games,” we were told. “This is just press speculation. We don’t know whether this was just to raise the profile of some websites or not, but the bottom line is that this is simply not true. We have no plans to integrate Xbox technology into set top boxes.”
So there we have it. It seemed somewhat unbelievable to us at the time, which is why we didn’t run the story in the first place. Microsoft did a great job of masking the Xbox from the public and this was only spoiled by an American magazine hitting the newstands a day or so early.
If there are any more rumblings, we will let you know.
