Konami’s notoriously serious Hideo Kojima has given his views on the Nintendo GameCube and the possibility of a Metal Gear Solid game for the platform.

“The reason why MGS2 is for PS2 is very simple: MGS1 was for PS1 and it was very successful. Metal Gear fans and PS fans get along very well, it is a perfect match. It's not because we think PS2 is a better machine. When I pick hardware to do a game on, I don't really care about that stuff. I look at the audience that it has. Releasing a Metal Gear game on a Nintendo console would be ridiculous; I don't know about GameCube, but their machines that exist right now are for younger kids. I don't care about how good the system itself is, because all consoles right now are at about the same level of power.”

Kojima seems almost defensive about his choice of platform. He is also of the opinion that Nintendo appeals mainly to children, which simply isn’t true.

He goes on: “I'm not too satisfied with Smash Bros 2 or Wave Race 2 as they are basically N64 games. But Pikmin looked different, it looked quite unique. I'd like to try it out.”

Again Kojima seems to have missed the point. To say that these games are N64 games is ridiculous. Surely not an advisable comment from a man hard at work on a sequel.

If Kojima opens his mouth to say anything interesting in the near future, you will be the first to know.
