New Sony Handheld to Adopt 'Netbook and Gaming Characteristics'
Rumours of Sony preparing to unveil a new handheld continue apace, with the Wall Street Journal claiming that the company is developing an ambitious device that will seek to be capable of more than just playing games.

Reads the WSJ article, "Sony is developing a portable device that shares characteristics of hand-held game machines, e-book readers and netbook computers, according to people familiar with the matter."

While it sounds very exciting, it's possible that this could be a product unconnected with the PSP - the newspaper does not go so far as to claim it is a successor to Sony's gaming handheld, and reports that the company has yet to announce any plans to update the PSP hardware.

The article also states that Nintendo and Sony could be courting Japanese mobile phone carrier companies with regards to adopting 3G technology in future devices. NTT Docomo's Ryuji Yamada has said that his firm is discussing the provision of 3G connections for handheld game systems.
