There's a Resident Evil 6 coming, but Jun Takeuchi won't be involved. In an interview with 4Gamer, the producer hinted that he will take a step back from frontline development to focus on important behind-the-scenes work at Capcom.Previously, Takeuchi only hinted of his non-involvement, but he made his intentions clear to the Japanese website. "I'm not involved in
Resident Evil 6," he said. Can't get simpler than that as an answer.
"There's actually a number of things I want to do, [but] if I say it like that, it might be taken as 'next game,'" he added. "Before reaching the step of making a game, we -- Japanese developers -- have a lot of things that we must do. To begin, I have a number of things I'd like to do related to Capcom as a whole."
So he's not working on a game, and that non-game is not
Resident Evil 6. Gotcha. As a result, Takeuchi confirmed that he will be stepping out of the spotlight for a while, suggesting that his short-term work from now will involve more structural and research activity than actual development.
Cryptically, the producer said that there would be more surprises to come from the publisher over the next year. "This year at Capcom is very interesting. The titles we will announce in the future should surprise many people. This year, we'll be announcing things that [Keiji] Inafune and I have been working on over the past year."
Sounds surprising. Will you be surprised?
