Enjoy films based on video games? Well never mind, because here comes another one - Legendary Pictures have just signed on a deal with BioWare to make a Mass Effect movie. The writer of
I Am Legend, Mark Protosevich, is hotly tipped to pen the silver-screen adventures of Commander Shepard. The film will be produced by former Marvel Studios supremos Ari and Avi Arad, along with Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni.
BioWare's own Ray Muzyka, Greg Zeschuk and
Mass Effect series producer Casey Hudson will be on board as executive producers. Hopefully there won't be too many cooks in the kitchen with this movie production, but it seems like the IP is in good hands - Legendary has been previously known for its bankrolling of
The Dark Knight and
300, among others.
According to
HeatVision, Tull said the
Mass Effect games were "ripe for translation, [with] depth, compelling characters and an engaging back story," while Avi Arad described it as "a parable whose conflicts mirror the ones we currently face in our own world. This story emphasizes the need for all cultures to learn to work together."
Warner Brothers is also involved in the project - the company will distribute the film worldwide.
