Sony launched its new Digital Comics program for PSP users this week, and with it came the announcement that Disney have been added to the list of publishers providing content for the service.Marvel, IDW and Rebellion had already signed up to publish their most popular work on the handheld platform, but the arrival of Disney allows Sony to “offer comics for the younger PSP owner,” or at least that’s what this press release says. Could also be for the young at heart.
The Digital Comics service allows PSP users to download virtual comics and read them on their handheld using a feature called Autoflow Viewer, which automatically moves the reader from frame to frame without having to manually zoom in and out of each panel. Of course, you can zoom in to each individual frame as well, if that’s your burning desire.
You can install Digital Comics by updating to the latest firmware (6.20) and then selecting the service under the “Extras” menu on the XMB. Specific comics range from
Spider-Man,
X-Men,
Mickey Mouse,
Transformers,
Star Trek and
2000AD.
SCEE also
points out that, "PLEASE NOTE: Download the Digital Comics Reader application in order to view the comics. You can download the reader via Wi-Fi, directly on the PSP, by going to the Digital Comics reader icon and following the on-screen instructions."
