MTV has announced that it will be charging some $2 (£1) per song or $15 (£7.50) per album for works playable in
Rock Band.
In order to to get you hooked into this DLC (downloadable content) wonderment, your first offer is Brit Metallers' Judas Priest's.... 1980 epic
British Steel LP (Breaking the law, breaking the law!!).
No, sorry, it isn't. It's the leather-studded midlanders' 1982
Screaming for Vengeance set instead. Rather harshly we're told that this contains "the band's hit
You've Got Another Thing Comin' and nine other tracks". We say 'rather harshly' because we thought the boys had had more than one hit.
Remember though kids, don't play it backwards or
anywhere near Al Gore's wife.
"Our intention is to cover every base, both in terms of era and every sub-genre of rock," Alex Rigopulos, founder of the Harmonix studio that makes the game, said in an interview (well, a press release).
The 80s metal outing isn't going to stand alone, however. May see the (1978)
The Cars by The Cars coming down the pipes. While June heralds a SPOnG favourite in The Pixies
Doolittle album making its way (quietly and then loudly and then quietly) to
Rock Band's output.
"These are three very different rock albums and each is very seminal in its own way," Rigopulos said.
"Do what?" said SPOnG in an interview with SPOnG.
"Well, The Cars'
My Best Friend's Girl was the first ever officially released 7-inch picture disc in the UK", says Andy SPOnG in mitigation, "and Doolittle did provide the template for grunge".
"The Judas Priest album hits the online store for Microsoft Corp's Xbox 360 on April 22, and arrives on Sony Corp's PlayStation 3 store two days later".
