MGM Studios has announced a deal with Liverpool based Rage Software to bring an all-new Rocky game to PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
The license agreement is set to include all five Rocky movies, which basically means that each nemesis, end of film fighter, can be included as playable characters.
“We are delighted to be developing and publishing the officially endorsed range of computer and video games based on the Rocky movie anthology,” said Paul Finnegan, managing Director of Rage. “We believe that Rocky is without a doubt one of the most entertaining and enduring movie series ever produced, and plan to create a major gaming franchise that utilises the strengths of the license.”
We hope that Rocky doesn’t become another Prince Naseem Boxing, a game that proved that boxing games are difficult to make.
There have been several Rocky games in the past, on platforms including the Colecovision, Atari 2600 and Nintendo’s NES. They were all rubbish. Let’s hope that Rage can come up with a game that deserves to carry the license.
