Dolby laboratories and Microsoft corporation have announced a deal to provide the Xbox console with Dolby’s Digital 5.1 sound.
This will make the Xbox the first console to feature full 5.1 surround sound during gameplay as other consoles on the market can only support Dolby’s high end sound technology during the playback of full motion video sequences.
Microsoft stated that it has included a dedicated digital signalling chip that will enable developers to incorporate Dolby Digital 5.1 on the fly with no affect on gameplay.
