Treasure Working On New Game
Critical darling Treasure, the developer behind GunStar Heroes and Radiant Silvergun, is working on a new game.

The news comes from a recruitment posting and indicates the game is a “new project” that requires an emphasis on “originality” from applicants. Treasure also mentions that applicants should have skills in characterisation, while many of the posts advertised feature the phrase “3D” in the title.

Beyond that, details are as scarce as you might expect from a recruitment ad. Based on the information available SPOnG has its fingers crossed for a character-based 3rd person adventure.

The news that we're going to see some new IP from Treasure is sure to warm the hearts of older games fans. It's been a while since we've seen an original game from Treasure, with its recent emphasis having been on licenses such as Wario World and sequels such as GunStar Future Heroes.

If you happen to live in Japan and are looking for a job, the posts available include effects designer, a character modeller, a background modeller, and a scene designer. Treasure lovingly states (according to SPOnG's Google translation), “We wait for the application of the one which has hot passion in game production from heart.” Awww...

God, I hope not. No one buys Treasure games so we can forget what will be commercially viable. I'd personally hope for a shooter-puzzler that uses only a very small, usually unused part of one's brain and makes it ache for three days after playing. The better Treasure games make use of only a specific part of the brain and it feels all tingly and warm.

(Let's all forget the Loony Tunes debacle too. Stupid 3D.)
