RTS veteran CDV is continuing to bring strategy-motivated games players the best they can hope for with an all new adventure set 500 years in the past and based around the events that took place following Christopher Columbus' discovery of the American continent.
Only those with a flair for diplomacy and an ability to command 1,000-strong armies into battle will survive to claim the feudal land of the newly discovered continent. But while the basic tasks within American Conquest simply entail players defeating hordes of enemies, your ultimate objectives vary dependant on which race you choose to play as. Twelve nations including Spanish, English, France, Aztec, Incan, Mayan and Pueblo are all fighting for land, and you're free to play as any one of them.
Playing over some 30 missions spread across four extensive campaigns, you'll frequently find yourself confronted by the enemy. Sometimes, you'll have to defend yourself, and other times you'll have to plan and launch assaults to succeed. The battlefield can be a bloody place at times, and with up 16,000 units on screen in a single conflict, it's going to take more than numbers to turn the tide in battle. You'll have to make the best use of some formidable weaponry and organise your troops well. There are some 100 different units to control and environments play host to hundreds of strategically placed buildings.
So is it an RTS and a history lesson all in one? Most definitely, and it's another great addition to CDV's bustling PC portfolio.
