ATI confirms Xbox 2 and GameCube 2 talks
ATI, the firm currently supplying the graphical heart of Nintendo’s GameCube console, has stated that its next generation chip, the R350, will be the best performer on the market by the end of 2003.

What’s more, the firm’s vice president of engineering, Dave Rolston, confirmed that ATI is in talks with both Microsoft and Nintendo to supply the polygon-wrestling innards for their next machines.

“We would consider both of those to be of great interest, and we have ongoing discussions with both players,” he said. Does this mean that Nintendo and Microsoft may share graphics technologies? Could there be new levels of compatibility between the two, in a bid to oust Sony from top spot?

We sincerely doubt it, though it is likely that the next Nintendo home console will carry a version of the R350.
