UK games developer Creature Labs today announced the appointment of Les Edgar - best known as co-founder of Bullfrog Studios - to the board of directors of the Cambridge-based studio. This is a key appointment for the company and follows closely on the heels of major re-structuring which is intended to capitalise on the application of their unique and innovative artificial life technology to interactive entertainment.

David Clipsham, Creature Labs' Chairman, said of the appointment, "We are extremely pleased to have Les on board. He is a singular talent in the industry and his visionary approach, unique insights and strategic business advice will be of incalculable value as we move forward."

"Creature Labs' strong brands and innovative technology are leading the way to exciting opportunities in entertainment aross multiple platforms and media. They're a great team and I'm really pleased to be getting involved with them at a strategic level," commented Edgar.

Les Edgar is one of the few personalities in the interactive entertainment industry who can be said to have changed the course of the industry with his unique combination of creative and commercial skills. After a successful career in electronic engineering and business software, Edgar co-founded Britsoft star Bullfrog Productions which captured the imagination of the public worldwide with the release of genre busting million sellers such as Populous and Themepark.

Under Edgar's guidance, Bullfrog built on its early successes with careful expansion and smart exploitation of the company's unique IP, eventually merging with EA in a ground-breaking deal, with Edgar moving into the senior corporate role of Vice President of European Studios and Chairman of Bullfrog Productions.

After 4 years in this strategic role, Edgar announced the scaling down of his involvement with EA, and since that time, he has continued to announce a number of characteristically innovative ventures both inside and outside the games industry including his Chairmanship of Vis Entertainment plc, based in Scotland.

Creatures Labs is currently developing innovative entertainment titles across a wide range of gaming genres, including PC, online, next generation console and convergent media.

One of the studio's latest titles, Creatures Playground, has been nominated for the 2000 Children's BAFTA award and will be released in Europe in November by Havas Interactive.

Docking Station, an exciting online addition to the Creatures range is also due Q4 2000 with other original and inventive titles following in the New Year.
