Eidos Interactive, one of the world's leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, announces Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix on PlayStation. Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix is the prequel to the critically acclaimed Fear Effect, which was released in March 2000 and reached No.2 in the UK PlayStation charts. The game is being developed by Kronos Digital Entertainment, USA and is due for release in March 2001.

Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix takes the stunning graphics and compelling gameplay of the first game and introduces several new features and enhancements. The gameplay is more action orientated than that of its predecessor whilst retaining a strong narrative. In this new adventure, the player must delve into the colourful histories of the original cast of three mercenaries (Hana Tsu-Vachel, Royce Glas & Jakob "Deke" Decourt) as well as the extraordinary circumstances that brought them together. The game also introduces a new character, Rain Qin, a very close companion of Hana.

The story starts when Hana, Glas and Deke are hired under mysterious circumstances to acquire three separate items. What starts out as a routine infiltration and retrieval assignment spawns a bizarre chain of events. Our unlikely heroes are forced to put aside their differences and unite their skills to save the world from impending doom. For what they've obtained is more than a mere cure to the most prolific killer disease known to man - the three items combined, in fact, is the only weapon they have against the onslaught of oblivion.

Their adventures will take them to various new locations, ranging from Hells Kitchen in New York City, to a military base in Afghanistan, to the lost Tomb of the First Emperor of China. Each environment will test the skills of the characters; some will call for stealth, others for carnage. As the characters reach their final destination and come face to face with Rain's evil twin sister Mist the player will get to decide who is to live and who is to die!
