Square Enix to launch new FFXI expansion simultaneously in Japan, North America & Europe.

Square Enix Ltd. announced today that Final Fantasy XI for Windows will begin shipping to its territories' retailers in September. Final Fantasy XI, a cross-platform, cross continent 'massively multi-player online role-playing game' (MMORPG) is Square Enix's first online Final Fantasy title, and has already become a massive hit both in Japan and North America where players share the same universe whether they are accessing via a personal computer or a PlayStation 2.

Final Fantasy XI was first released in Japan in May 2002 and in North America in October 2003. The European version, complete with the second major expansion, "Chains of Promathia", is targeted to launch at the same time that it becomes available in Japan and North America. Players from Europe will be able to enter Final Fantasy XI's 'persistent world', "Vana'diel" and share an experience that has already attracted over 500,000 registered users.
