In addition to its new 3D environment, Pool of Radiance (developed by veteran software studio, Stormfront) will also be the first computer role-playing game (RPG) to incorporate the new Dungeons and Dragons Third Edition Rules. The gameplay provides for single and multi-player adventures where the player creates up to four players (of a six-strong team) to journey through the familiar Dungeons and Dragons world of the Forgotten Realms.

A new Pool of Radiance has risen beneath the ruined Elven city of Myth Drannor. Enlisted by the good wizard Elminster, the player characters are swept into a tale of utmost danger and evil. In the end, a mysterious cult is found to be behind the nefarious pool and the party faces not only a variety of fantastical creatures, but also a 'Dracolich' (an undead dragon).

As the story progresses, the characters meet potential allies that might be persuaded to join their cause (for make up the full complement of six characters), battle vicious foes of evil and try to overcome a host of challenges and puzzles along the way. Driven by an intense story, with multiple 'side quests' that enrich the world and the characters in it, the player takes a 'behind the seat' look into the tragedy of the city's current state and the grandeur it once boasted. In the end, it will be the player's heroics that save the city of Myth Drannor from evil's grasp and restore peace to the surrounding lands.
