Retailers Voice Support For Voodoo5 As It Storms Into Retail Charts.

Voodoo5 5500 AGP outsells next-generation rivals.

3dfx's brand new Voodoo5 5500 AGP card has gone straight into the UK charts and is outselling its next-generation rivals by a ratio of 2 to 1. The card went on to the shelves in June, and went straight into the top five in Chart Track's graphic accelerator league table, where it has remained ever since.

The Voodoo5 5500 entered the chart behind the Voodoo3 2000PCI which retained the number one slot for the 13th month running. The Voodoo5's strong position further solidifies 3dfx's domination of the UK retail sector, to the point where 3dfx now has five out of the top six best-selling graphics boards.

"This is fantastic news," said Brett Denly, Sales Director EMEA at 3dfx. "In terms of revenue the Voodoo5 5500 is 3dfx's best-selling graphics card to date. We were sure that we had the right balance of features on the Voodoo5 5500, combining speed and performance with the very best image quality available. But it's even more reassuring to have that confirmed by the consumer."

Retailers too have spoken out about the success of the Voodoo5 5500 product:

"Voodoo5 has hit the ground running as yet another best-seller. We're confident that sales of the Voodoo4 & 5 families will grow and grow particularly with the other products 3dfx have in the pipeline for the summer," said Peter Keenan, Marketing Director at PC World.

"We took a considerable amount of pre-orders for the Voodoo5. Our customers were eager for this product to launch. I think the full-scene anti-aliasing has made a big impact, a clear visual improvement is a great selling point and makes selling the Voodoo cards easier," said Mark Bolton, Product Manager at Electronics Boutique Stores Group.

"Online sales for the Voodoo5 have been great and the boards are continuing to consistently sell in impressive numbers. 3dfx have a great retail presence and a strong brand name - these are key factors to being a success in this marketplace," said Chris Hodgson, Head of Product Marketing at Jungle.com.

"The new Voodoo5 cards from 3dfx have been extremely well received by our customers, to the point where we have sold through a large amount of stock already - we can't wait to get our hands on the PCI version," said David Barry, Senior Product Manager at Simply Computers.

The Voodoo5 5500 was designed by 3dfx to be the prime retail board for the discerning games player and high-end graphics user, at UKP249 inclusive of VAT. The 64Mb board packs a huge amount of power, with two VSA-100 processors on board, and speeds of up to 667 megatexels per second. The Voodoo5 5500's greatest asset, however, is the stunning enhancement the card makes to image quality. Uniquely in this market at present, the Voodoo5 5500 boasts true hardware-generated Full-Scene Anti-Aliasing, a technique which removes the jagged edges commonly seen in games, yielding clean lines and liquid-smooth animation.

In the charts, the Voodoo5 5500 AGP joins the three Voodoo3 marques - which seem to have taken up permanent residency in Chart Track's listings. Voodoo cards have been at number one now every month since May 1999, when the Voodoo3 3000 was launched. With new versions of the Voodoo4 and Voodoo5 due for launch this summer, 3dfx's domination of graphic accelerator sales in the UK looks set to continue.
