Strategy gamers and Trekkers can test their skills of mind and might in Activision, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Star Trek ConQuest Online, the first Star Trek® game played exclusively over the Internet. The title delivers the characters, ships and weapons from the Star Trek: The Next Generation® world to the PC in a strategic race to rule the galaxy.
"Star Trek ConQuest Online marks a turning point in both the world of Star Trek and online gaming," said Michael Pole, executive vice president, Activision Studios. "For the first time ever, gamers will be able to use the familiar characters, ships and weapons from one of the most popular television series, Star Trek, to challenge fellow Star Trek fans in an online world full of surprises and endless strategy."
Star Trek ConQuest Online is a turn-based strategy game that challenges players to outwit another opponent in an interstellar game of cat and mouse. The game is being developed by Genetic Anomalies, the talent behind the highly acclaimed online collectible game, Chron X™.
In Star Trek ConQuest Online, gamers assume the role of a Q, an all-powerful being who is anxious to reign most clever amongst a bevy of other Qs. Each player manipulates his or her group of collectible pieces, striving to outwit the competition and emerge victorious.
Players start off with a pre-determined set of pieces, constructed from a group of more than 150 characters, weapons and ships, each with varying abilities and value. Each player uses their pieces to gain control of planets, as well as to attack and fend off their opponent's pieces. A player wins by seizing control of the challenger's home planet and capturing their Q or by holding off their opponent for long enough to win by racking up points.
During each turn, the player "deploys" a piece, or a combination of pieces in an attempt to gain advantage over their opponent. Types of pieces in the game include: character pieces (like Picard and Riker), ship pieces (like the U.S.S. Enterprise and a Borg Cube), and weapon pieces (like phasers and Bat'leths). Players can gain advantage by strategically combining available pieces into compatible sets. Players can add to their arsenal by purchasing additional pieces (at stores or via download), or by trading pieces with other players. These "virtual game pieces" are collectible and have real monetary value. Genetic Anomalies' patented Collectible Bits™ technology ensures secure and safe ownership.
