The German publisher CDV is spearheading into the UK marketplace with Sudden Strike, a real time strategy game based on the battlefields of Europe.

Set in World War II, Sudden Strike is a tactical war game with authentic historical background and compelling gameplay - it is one of the few WWII-based games to come out of Germany. The player can control American, English or French units on the Allied side, or play as the Germans or Russians. Controlling the Russian army across formidable terrain presents the most difficult challenge to the player and features some massive battles. Players on all sides will find at least 30 missions of varying depth and complexity await them.

Already heralded as a cross between Command and Conquer and Cannon Fodder, Sudden Strike is set to redefine many people's ideas of war gaming. The game is highly accessible to all standards of players. The seasoned war gamer will find plenty to challenge and stretch him, while those who like to be able to get into games quickly will appreciate the specific objectives set as an Allied Commander.

Sudden Strike looks highly attractive with sprite-based graphics, Gouraud shaded lighting effects, and Z-buffer rendering of on-screen objects. Early online previews suggest that "the graphics and animation deserve special recognition" (Gamespot UK), and that it contains "some of the most intense gameplay the genre has ever seen" (Strategy Games Online).

"With Sudden Strike, CDV is launching into the UK market with all guns blazing," said Terry Malham, President of CDV UK. "There are very few games around of this calibre - combining amazingly detailed visuals with absorbing gameplay and historical detail. It will appeal to a wide range of war gamers, strategy fans and gamers generally."

Chief among the features of Sudden Strike are the following:

Up to 1,000 units on screen at once with no loss of frame rate.

LAN, modem and Internet play modes supported.

Units include tanks, infantry, rocket launchers, and planes.

All on-screen objects can be destroyed.

Houses and buildings can be entered and used as fortifications.

Sudden Strike will released at the end of September on PC CD-ROM. Further information on the game and its development can be found at the Sudden Strike website at www.suddenstrike.com.
