Strategy players who can't get enough of CDV's classic RTS American Conquest will have a new set of challenges as American Conquest Fight Back is published in August.
With five new nations, 26 new campaign missions and an entirely new game mode entitled Battles, American Conquest Fight Back guarantees that fans of the original will find the game takes on new dimensions.
The five new nations include the Alaskan Haida, the Russians (fighting for control of Alaska), the Portuguese, the Dutch – and, perhaps surprisingly, the Germans. However, as CDV explains, Germany had a deep-seated interest in the fate of North America in early colonial days through its land purchases in that part of South America now covered by Venezuela and its neighbours.
The new game mode gives a fresh perspective to playing American Conquest. In Battles there is no economy, so players can focus entirely on tactics and war formations. There are various objectives in each Battles mission, which are not tied to historical campaigns, using pre-designed maps. Battles mode is designed to test the player's mastery of pure military strategy, with restricted resources to give an added challenge.
American Conquest Fight Back also boasts new units and ships, and gives one of its new nations, the native Haida, its own individual asset – the totem pole, which the tribe can gather around in order to boost the morale of its troops.
Fight Back also isn't an add-on in the strictest sense. Although designed to be played with American Conquest, CDV is planning to publish the title in a stand-alone version, so players will not need their copy in order to play the new game.
"American Conquest was a huge success for us and the new elements and fine-tuning we have introduced in Fight Back will, I'm sure, delight our existing user base as well as winning us new aficionados of the game," says Terry Malham, CDV's president, UK branch.
American Conquest Fight Back will be published by CDV Software Entertainment UK for PC CD-ROM on August 2003, priced to be confirmed.
