Friday 18th 2002 is a date marked clearly on all PC gamers' calendars – as that's when CDV Software Entertainment UK launches the latest instalment in the thrilling Cossacks series of real-time strategy games. And to celebrate the premiere of the new online ranking system, the publisher is offering the UK's best Cossacks: Back to War player a crate of the finest Russian vodka.
Cossacks: Back to War is both a standalone title and an expansion to the original game, offering over 100 new single-player missions and a host of new multiplayer options. Back to War will run on its own or integrate itself into previously-installed versions of the game, expanding the digital collection of levels and campaigns for previous Cossacks and Cossacks: The Art of War players.
And to promote the new online ranking system, CDV will award the inaugural monthly champion a crate of Stolichnaya Cristall Vodka, widely recognised as one of Russia's finest brands of the booze. Every ounce of Cristall vodka is twice filtered through carbon granules made from the wood of Russia's native birch. This unique distillation process creates Russian vodka so exceptional it has become a mark of excellence with unmatched appeal.
The competition runs for four weeks, from October 18th through until November 15th. The player ranked number one in the UK at 11:59pm on the final day will automatically qualify for the title of UK's keenest strategist – and the 12 bottles of spirit will be with them in time for Christmas.
"Although Cossacks players don't need an incentive to compete to the highest possible standard, we thought it would be nice to offer our first winner something to celebrate with," says Terry Malham, president, CDV Software Entertainment UK. "The great thing is there will be no losers – those that fail to claim the UK crown will have nevertheless enjoyed one of the finest real-time strategy games ever published. What better runners-up prize than that?"
Cossacks: Back to War will be published by CDV Software Entertainment UK on October 18th, 2002, priced £19.99.
