Disney Interactive Brings Games, Activities, Creative Elements to Girls Via PC and Console.

Leading Ladies Arrive on PC with Disney’s Princesses.

BURBANK, Calif. (May 11, 2000) – Disney Interactive is responding to girls’ increasing affinity and demand for interactive games by creating targeted titles designed to appeal to girls and their interests, and developing them across multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation Game Console and Game Boy Color.

Games are based on the Disney properties and characters girls love most, such as Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, as well as classic Disney films and Disney Princess characters.

Girls get to indulge their fantasies and explore the worlds of their favorite, spirited Disney heroines, while also getting into the action to control the direction and outcome of the games. Console games are designed for girls age six and up; PC titles are developed for girls age five and up.

Disney Princesses for PC.

Specifically within the PC segment, Disney Interactive is introducing Disney’s Princesses. Titles focus on the world of a specific Disney Princess, such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Belle and others, and combine girls’ creative interests like music and dance, and arts and crafts, with their natural play patterns, which include social interaction and exploration. The first title launched in the series was Disney’s Princess Fashion Boutique, which debuted at retail earlier this year. Princess products to follow include Disney’s The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

“It’s indisputable that Disney has the right content for girls,” said Jan Smith, president, Disney Interactive. “With gaming becoming more mainstream every year and advances in technology enhancing both graphics and gameplay, it’s no surprise that demand for interactive entertainment by girls is increasing. Disney Interactive is delighted to be bringing these types of games to girls.”

Disney’s Princess Fashion Boutique Gains Momentum.

Disney’s Princess Fashion Boutique has been extremely well received, both at retail and by consumers. The title gained 22% in the month of March 2000, over February, both in units and revenue, and ranked #6 in the Girls software category according to PC Data (4/22/00).
