The event takes place in a huge theatre in Bicester, near Oxford, and for the 250 competitors the event promises to deliver some great tournaments across a wide range of games with some great prizes on offer.
The event is also being covered by PCGamer and all the action will feature on the cover disk of the July edition of the magazine.
The centrepiece of the event will be based around the ultra-realistic Tom Clancy game Ghost Recon, where teams of five will battle in a knockout style competition throughout the weekend for the £1,000 in prize money donated by Ubi Soft.
Other highlights include the chance to win a VIP paddock pass to the 2002 World Superbike Championship in a racing competition being held on the EA Sports game, Superbike 2000.
For the UK's virtual Commandos though, there is also going to be another opportunity to test their metal when they take on members of the British Army in various set piece battles contained within the Ghost Recon game.
For Mike Rowe however, MD of ROWEB, the prize money on offer is sure to add a dramatic finale to the event: "With our ComBat250 event series, Ghost Recon provides the ideal medium in which to challenge the dedicated gamer. The £1,000 top prize will ensure a high adrenaline count that will bring out the best in Ghost Recon AND demonstrate how effective these events are in promoting quality products to a core target market."
Though all 250 participants will be bringing their own PC's on which to practice, the UK's leading permanent venue LAN GAMING company, Wireworld, will be supplying 10 top specification networked competition PC's which are absolutely identical to the event. This ensures that when the going gets tough during the events, it gets tough on a level playing Field.
Jim Hill, Product Manager at Ubi Soft commented, "Ghost Recon is the most realistic squad-based game out there, so we want to get the finest clans in the land to compete and discover who are the greatest virtual soldiers in the UK. It will be a great couple of days!"
Finally, there will also be a Counterstrike tournament at the event for both pro and amateur combatants - on which there will be breaking news shortly. Keep monitoring www.roweb.co.uk for updates on this event…
