New Legends is the debut title from start-up company Infinite Machine, which Justin Chin, the designer of Jedi Knight, co-founded with Cheyuan Wang, who was a programmer on Descent and Jedi Knight. With New Legends, Chin hoped to take the storytelling he started in Jedi Knight to the next level. He also hoped to take the melee combat that was in Jedi Knight, courtesy of the lightsaber, and evolve that into a deeper and more rewarding melee combat model in New Legends.

The future finds China divided into the feudal lands of the ancient past. A land where races and clans stand divided, as humans, demons, and gods roam the territories. A dark new Dynasty grows, as its evil wrath consumes the land and the people throughout China.
The Soo Kingdom is one of the few who stand against this evil and its leader, Xao Gon. As Sun Soo, the game's lead character, players will battle to free China and his fallen kingdom using a variety of weapons and fighting skills.
At each turn of his journey, Sun Soo will meet a great cast of characters, including half a dozen non-playable characters who befriend him, and a host of evil generals who oppose him.
The main boss characters Sun Soo has to fight throughout his journey, come from the five classic Chinese elements; fire, wind, earth, water and metal. All these bosses have powers that come naturally from their affiliation with their element.
