The launch of the original Ridge Racer in 1995 changed the racing genre forever bringing 3D racing from the Arcade into the home. Due for release across the PAL markets during Autumn 2000, Namco’s Ridge Racer 5 on PlayStation 2 promises to raise the benchmark yet again.
Ridge Racer 5 is about exciting gameplay, pursuing the sheer frantic fun of racing within the most realistic environment. Upgraded to its utmost limit, RR5 brings gamers a quality product both in terms of gameplay and graphical content. Backgrounds with amazing animation bring each screen to full life – configuration and buildings are depicted in minute detail, landscapes are reflected on the body of cars.
PlayStation 2 technology makes the best use of the improved rendering power of 3D polygons. Smooth, beautiful and outstanding visual images have been achieved by using Gouraud Intense Technique cultivated in the past versions of Ridge Series, just watch the sparks fly as cars ruthlessly pursue victory.
Gamers can play in four different modes – try the ‘Free Run’ Mode where you can simply drive the courses, ideal for training or Grand Prix’ Mode, the main game mode where improved AI ensures that your rivals are racing to win at all costs! Two players compete in head-to-head competition on a horizontally split screen during ‘Versus Battle’ Mode. Racing against the clock during ‘Time Attack’ Mode players must achieve the fastest record.
Namco have created a realistic space in which players feel they are actually taking part in a race, controlling a car and driving on a course. PlayStation 2 owners will surely see Ridge Racer V as a must-have game for their next generation collection.
