The Sudden Strike UK Championships, organised by top European games publisher CDV, reaches its climax this weekend when the UK finals day is held at The Playing Fields in London.
The Championships have succeeded in being the biggest real-time strategy tournament ever held, with a field of 804 entrants starting the contest back in August. Since then, 24 players have fought their way through the preliminary qualifying tournament online to make it to the final on Sunday, October 7.
The 24 finalists will meet at The Playing Fields, London's premier venue for online gaming, to play Sudden Strike using a map designed exclusively for the day by CDV's renowned map-maker Taliesin. In front of friends and family, invited media and TV crews from Game Network and Channel 4's Thumb Bandits, these elite players will fight it out for the title of Sudden Strike UK Champion.
In addition to playing for hardware prizes available on the day, the finalists will also be challenging for one of the three top places overall - the three best players from Sunday's final will go through to the Sudden Strike European Championship, to be held in Paris in November between the top Sudden Strike players from the UK, France, Germany and the Rest Of Europe.
"The standard of play in the preliminary tournament was astonishingly high," says Leo Zullo, marketing manager of CDV UK. "These 24 finalists have really earned their colours and we're looking forward to a real 'clash of the titans' on Sunday."
The Sudden Strike UK Championships and European Championships have been organised by CDV Software Entertainment to celebrate the enduring success of its real-time strategy World War II simulation Sudden Strike and Sudden Strike Forever.
