Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) announced today that it is in development with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Spider-Man: The Movie for the GAMECUBE platform. The company is among the first wave of third-party publishers to announce its support for the highly anticipated console system. Activision also confirmed that it is working closely with Nintendo of America on the development of these two initial titles.
"We are excited to partner with Nintendo to bring these key franchises to the GAMECUBE," states Ron Doornink, President and COO, Activision, Inc. "For calendar year 2000, Activision was not only the fastest growing U.S. software publisher overall, we were also the fastest growing Nintendo publisher. In addition, for the past two quarters, the company has been the #1 independent publisher for the Game Boy® Color. For the year, Activision had combined domestic retail sales for the Nintendo® 64 and Game Boy Color of more than $135 million. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Nintendo in this new era of console gaming. We believe that the GAMECUBE will offer revolutionary enhancements to the gaming experience and provide us with new opportunities to continue expanding our audience."
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for GAMECUBE will feature the signature gameplay, top-rated skaters and intuitive controls that have made the franchise a critical and commercial success. Spider-Man: The Movie game will bring Columbia Pictures/Marvel Entertainment's live-action feature film experience to the interactive arena. Spider-Man fans can play the fledgling super hero in highly detailed 3D environments as they battle the forces of evil.
