The video game adaptation of this film will see this fascinating world made availableon PC, PlayStation, Dreamcast and Game Boy Color.
The PC, Dreamcast and PlayStation versions will be developed by Revolution Software (developer of Broken Sword and Broken Sword 2).
We follow our two heroes Miguel and Tulio, accompanied by their faithful companion Altivo, as they venture on their epic journey: beginning with their flight from Spain carrying the strange map, their voyage as stowaways in a conquistador ship heading to the New World, their trek through the jungle and their arrival, at last, at the gates of El Dorado.
Whilst the majority of games derived from animated movies are platform games, "Gold and Glory: The Road to El Dorado" on PC, PlayStation and Dreamcast will
for its part be a true adventure game. It will feature numerous action scenes, in order to meet the demands of a young public eager for this type of gaming experience.
In order to enhance the scenario "we have designed the narrative around the two
characters looking back at their adventure and exaggerating their own particular parts in the story" - says Charles Cecile one of the founders of Revolution Software" - "this approach is wholly original".
Scenes from the Dreamworks movie will also feature in the PC, PlayStation and Dreamcast games.
The Game Boy Color version will be developed by Planet Software. This version for portable consoles will feature all the magic and humour of the Dreamworks movie. At the start of each level (Spain, the conquistador ship, the jungle, and the Mayan city), gamers can choose which of the movie's heroes they want to play as. Better still, the gameplay will also be punctuated by animated sequences taken from the movie!
In the tradition of the classic buddy movies, "The Road to El Dorado" the next animation movie from Dreamworks studios is a comedic tale of adventure and discovery.
Tulio (voiced by Kevin Kline) and Miguel (voiced by Kenneth Branagh), a pair of two-bit Spanish con men, flee an angry crowd - right into the brig of a ship bound for the New World. An ill-advised escape attempt is complicated by Altivo, a haughty war horse, and the three wind up starving and stranded on alien shores. They accidentally stumble upon El Dorado, the legendary City of Gold, where they find themselves in the middle of what may just be the scam of a lifetime.
In El Dorado, they are proclaimed to be gods by Tzekel-Kan (voiced by Armand Assante), the High Priest, who uses their arrival to take control of the city from Chief Tannabok (voiced by Edward James Olmos). Tulio and Miguel sustain the ruse
with the aid of the beautiful native Chel (voiced by Rosie Perez), who matches them con-for-con. But even as they fulfil their dreams of gold and glory, their friendship - and the very fate of El Dorado - hang in the balance.
"The Road to El Dorado" also features music from the Academy Award-winning team from "The Lion King": singer/songwriter EIton John, lyricist Tim Rice and composer Hans Zimmer. Directed by Eric "Bibo" Bergeron and Don Paul, the film's producers are Brooke Breton and Bonnie Radford.
