Realm has recently purchased the rights to the Trade Wars name from Epic Interactive Strategy and the game will be called Trade Wars: Dark Millennium. Even today, Trade Wars invokes nostalgia among thousands of game players who still play the original version. Keeping the spirit of the original, Trade Wars: Dark Millennium will be a MMPOG real time strategy game (RTS) set in a vast universe composed of thousands of players.
Trade Wars: Dark Millennium key features will include constructing trade routes, forming corporations, and building empires. Players will command distinct cultures, each with their own special abilities, striving for domination and power. Trade Wars: Dark Millennium encompasses an enormous virtual 3D world comprised of planetary and space environments. In addition, players will be able to mine resources, pirate, hunt, and wage war against opposing empires.
Trade Wars is scheduled to release Q4 2001 for the PC, with Macintosh, Linux and console versions slated for release soon thereafter. The official Trade Wars: Dark Millennium website (www.tradewars.com ) will launch on February 23, 2001. The website will provide discussion forums, information on development status, screen shots and beta-testing registration information. At this time, Realm has not commissioned a publisher for the title.
