More Evolutionary Football Thrills From Konami

Virtual football reaches fever pitch with the release of ISS Pro Evolution 2.

Other football titles are on a hiding to nothing as the only serious football game on the PlayStation makes a comeback – it’s Konami’s ISS Pro Evolution 2 and it’s due in March.

The ISS Pro Evolution series of games, developed by Konami’s KCET in Japan, is recognised by virtual footy fans around the globe as being the most realistic and challenging game of two halves on the market.

Fans won’t be disappointed with ISS Pro Evolution 2, as the finest football simulation in the world has been tweaked and fine-tuned to produce an even slicker version of the original masterpiece.

Now it’s a more serious football game than ever following Konami’s securing of a FIFPro licence. This means that the game now features the real names and likenesses of thousands of players from around the world so you can play as the greatest footballers on the planet.

But the improved realism does not end there….

An all new ‘Injury’ system means that players can sustain scaleable injuries, from little knocks which can be run off in a couple of minutes to those lasting several matches. Following foul play the extent of the injury will be indicated and gamers will have to decide, depending on the severity of the injury, as to whether or not they should substitute the injured player or risk continuing the match with his ability significantly dropped. A total change of strategy may well be necessary to cover the loss of an injured player.

The Master League has been improved and expanded; there are now 24 teams as opposed to the 16 in the first game and a second division has been added. New teams include England’s West Ham and Leeds United, and European favourites Rio de Janeiro and Lazio. The teams are also now split into two divisions and the prospect of promotion or relegation makes for even more tension. Points gained from a win in division two are less than those gained in division one so you’ll really have to play hard to be able to afford better players.

Proving that there’s more to football than FIFA, ISS Pro Evolution 2 once again takes the beautiful game straight to your armchair, avoiding jumpers for goalposts, small boys in the park and the mortal fear of parky.
