Nintendo Wii U owners will soon have one thing over Apple iOS users: Maps that Work as standard.
The news that Google Maps will be coming in app form to to the new console slammed into sharp focus like a fist being seen by a really, really good telescope earlier today during president Iwata's Japanese Nintendo Direct online event.
Using the Wii U's touchscreen GamePad, Wii U owners will be able to pan and scan around the maps just like real computer owners.
Also lined up is something called the "Panorama View" app. According to Verge
, this "will also offer specially-shot 360-degree videos that you can pan around with the GamePad. It'll be out in Japan as a free download between January and March before Nintendo starts charging an unspecified fee; no word on a release elsewhere, but we'd expect it around the same time."
