HMV's Oxford Street store wasn't the only one celebrating the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Blockbuster's flagship outlet in Daventry also hosted a special midnight ceremony, and has revealed some startling sales statistics. According to the retailer, more than 10,000 copies of the game were sold in five minutes.
While there's no doubt that Black Ops II will dominate the UK charts come next Monday, this is the first we've heard of any rough sales figure for the game so far. Of course, that number will now be much bigger than 10,000 now that people have had a chance to wake up and go down to the shops.
Commercial Director for Blockbuster UK Gerry Butler is certainly quite chuffed. Speaking at midnight last night, "We sold over 10,000 copies of the game in the first five minutes alone and we anticipate that our stores will continue to serve hundreds of COD fans today as the rush continues to get the latest game in this record breaking franchise.
"It was fantastic to see thousands of people turnout at over 450 Blockbuster stores last night and our staff really getting into the spirit of Call of Duty: Black Ops II. We could not have served all our customers so quickly without the dedication of our staff so huge thanks for them for working so hard on the biggest night in gaming."
