Remember all that kerfuffle a couple of months back then PSN was hacked and a lot of people had their personal details stolen? You may have heard of it, it was a reasonably big story. Now it seems that Sony is attempting to cover its ass after folks started lawyering up when things started getting hot. The next update to the PSN Terms of Service states that if anything goes wrong again, you're not going to get your day in court.

Should something happen to your PSN account or any device linked to it, there'll be absolutely bugger all you can do. It's there in black and white (or white on that lovely cerulean blue): "you and the Sony Entity that you have a Dispute with agree to seek resolution of the Dispute only through arbitration of that Dispute in accordance with the terms of this Section 15, and not litigate any Dispute in court."

If you don't speak Legalese, it means you are legally not allowed to take on Sony if something goes wrong... say, if all your personal details were stolen from PSN by a bunch of scriptkiddies. But that'll never happen, will it? Always check what you're signing!

There's no way on earth something as dumb as this can stick, so it's really a matter of waiting for someone to challenge it. Sony may be a huge multinational but they can't rewrite the law. If they screw up, they'll have to take responsibility for it. Of course, for now if you want to continue using PSN you'll need to accept the T&Cs, but we wouldn't worry too much. It's either that or cancel your account and we wouldn't want that...
