Wolverine vs Wolverine: Weirdest Marketing Ever?

Posted by Staff
You've got a big game coming out off the back of one of the year's biggest films, so what do you do to market it? Head down to a zoo, apparently.

That's what Activision/Blizzard has done for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The company tells us: "To celebrate today’s launch the X-Men Origins: Wolverine the video game in the UK, Edinburgh Zoo has teamed up with Activision to change the name of the UK’s only male adult Wolverine to ‘Logan’ in respect for the Marvel character. In addition, the video game publisher has also sponsored the Zoo’s wolverine enclosure and breeding programme to help ensure that Edinburgh Zoo can continue its breeding programme throughout 2009 and 2010."

Now we're looking at pictures of real life wolverines, they don't look all that scary...

And will Len Wein admit that he thought a wolverine was a particularly bad-ass kind of wolf when he invented the character, and not, as it turns out, some kind big weasel? Especially since the character lived amongst wolves.
