Talking to assembled financial press in Kyoto this morning, Nintendo president and Maxwell House advert impersonator extraordinaire Satoru Iwata, made some stern comments about Nintendo’s future.
Speaking of the next generation of Nintendo hardware, both in-home and portable, Iwata stated that Nintendo is ready to invest a significant portion of its banked $6 billion into the research and development process in order to deliver “…the greatest gaming machines ever.” He also confirmed that work is well underway on both the next home console, as yet unnamed, and the next instalment of Game Boy.
Iwata went on to talk of new franchises that will be as big and important to Nintendo as both Mario and Pokemon. He commented that a heavy process of character development is underway at present, and that Nintendo is confident that it can capture a larger videogame market share.
