You find yourself, once again, playing the role of Jack Carver, as voiced by Stephen Dorff. Jack has settled down, he's back living in his home port of Micronesia and has a girlfriend. Unfortunately, for Jack, he is stoney broke and is doing less-than-legal work to make ends meet. Jack finds himself approached by a sexy woman named Kade, and unable to resist, he agrees to help her on a smuggling mission. Everything goes wrong, and Jack is framed for the murder of a government official. This kicks off a six-mission solo campaign to prove Jack's innocence and blast all-comers into oblivion.

Gameplay is now completely free-roaming, and this allows you to island-hop at will. Added to his number of animal instincts, Jack is now able to climb vertically up objects such as trees and cliffs. Players will be able to subdue their enemies with poisonous blowdarts, pipe bombs, and Molotov cocktails, in addition to the armaments found in Far Cry: Instincts. New vehicles available to Mr Carver include armoured pickup trucks, heavy transport trucks and sampan boats.
