Summary

Extreme sports have experienced something of an upsurge in popularity in recent times. While some people hold PlayStation responsible for this change in video-game lifestyle, it is ultimately the developers that are responsible for what is a ‘cool’, fun-to-play video game. Konami’s experience in this field is more than adequate, and as such, the release of ESPN Winter X Games Snowboarding on PlayStation 2 is next in line for Konami’s bustling portfolio.

First and foremost, many snowboarding fans will associate X Snowboarding with the earlier SSX game on PlayStation 2. In reality, X Snowboarding is very different and takes a more serious approach to the genre. This is not to say it isn’t any less fun to play.

X Snowboarding is introduced with some stunning video footage of professional snowboarders in action. You can begin the game by either choosing from a number of professionals or creating your own character, right down to hair colour and weight. Regardless, getting into the game proper is a lot more fun. There are four game types available, including the Big Air and Half-Pipe events. As you play, you will be rated on each of the events and placed on a scoreboard. As you win events, you will obtain access to hidden features in the game. Some events are orientated around tricks, while others are time-based races.

X Snowboarding is a comprehensive, fully customisable, incredibly challenging and enjoyable experience. When put alongside the popular SSX, making a purchase can be a difficult choice.
