Summary

Is it possible that there are now more sequels to videogames than there are original titles? Daft theory, I know, but sometimes it really does seem that way, and in the topsy-turvy world of developing and publishing these games, it surely won't belong until someone, somewhere suggests it's time for a follow-up to…hang on a minute, it's not out yet!

Despite grumbling noises of discontent from some sections of SPOnG Central, 3DO come again with Sarge's Heroes 2. Some games deserve a sequel, and Sarge's Heroes is a prime candidate for a revision, not that there was anything wrong with the first one. The PlayStation original was a hoot to play, with the green plastic soldiers marauding around the kitchen and bathroom among other novel places, blowing the Evil Tan to kingdom come.

This time around, the PS2 version does just what you thought it might. Game-play that's comparable to the first instalment, albeit with improved sound and visuals, and that's yer lot. If you have done the Army Men thing before and liked what you saw, then this addition will float your boat with ease. If you're a virgin soldier, then fall in now, 'cos Sarge's Heroes 2 is a much better deal than weekend willy-waving in the Territorial Army or paint-balling in the middle of nowhere on a freezing Sunday morning. 3DO have given you the opportunity to be a soldier every day of the week - so use it!
