It's certainly cleverer than lauching a system which doesn't play next-gen video out of the box, needs a huge brick kept out of sight to say the machine's a decent size and was so desperate to be loved that it had to have a number bigger than '3' in it's name.

MmmMMMM, smell that desperation!

Please, MS' response and the interpretation thereof in the article was clever.

I'll add a few further options...

5) ...never existed, but now that you mention it, thats not the worst idea in the world...

6) ...never existed, but we've had something along those lines in the works for some time now (mebbe its not black, or doesn't have a 120 GB hdd)...

ps schnide... Desperation?!? Please. Are you actually that stupid? Or are you just another one of those. (That 6-letter f-word that everyone is sick of hearing)

edit:re-read your comment and noticed the bit about the 'number bigger than 3'...which leads me to the conclusion that yes, you are that stupid AND you're a major fanboy.

Just another example of Microsoft FUD before the UK PS3 launch?

Though the revised 360 would be a good idea, I can see it annoying (to say the least) a lot of people who bought their 360 last Christmas.

wow! someone doesnt like the xbox...

its a games console, hence most people dont give a f*ck whether it plays next-gen video, it plays next-gen GAMES and dvds which is all that matters.

omg, a power brick! because that really is a sign of desperation. i think your find its probably more due to heat issues ;)

ill give you the name, although it is only and name! it wont stop me buying a wii even tho i hate the name.

It's not as if Microsoft haven't done it before. Ask them what happened to Word for Windows V3, 4 and 5. Word 6 was released at a time when WordPerfect, WfW's main competitor, was just moving to version 6.

*rolls eyes*

NEWS FLASH:tyrion HATES Microsoft.

I was even thinking to myself, "Self, even a dedicated Microsoft hater like tyrion wouldn't be associated with such ignorant comments." I swear I was. I am deeply saddened that you proved me wrong. I hate being wrong.

actually, there was word v3, 4 and 5 but they were for the mac. they release v6 as a joint mac/windows release and sync'd release numbers. not really anything to do with wordperfect.

Microsoft has been on the constant offensive recently. This happens when someone is aware they are under threat [see: your spurious posts in this thread].

I own an Xbox. So I'm what, a Sony fanboy was it?

And it's common knowledge that Microsoft called the 360 what they did so that it would sound more advanced than the PS3.

I own one.

This is why you don't have a job which involves launching games consoles, and nor do you understand why the PS2 is currently the world's most popular system - DVD playback carried the PS2 when it's games lineup was lacking. That was in the infancy of DVD, and the fact that the 360 does it is old news now. You need as many USP's as you can get and Blu-Ray is one of PS3's.

omg, a power brick! because that really is a sign of desperation. i think your find its probably more due to heat issues ;)

Tell the Japanese that. How's it doing over there again?

ill give you the name, although it is only and name! it wont stop me buying a wii even tho i hate the name.

It's psychological. How badly do you think Microsoft want to win this thing? Possibly the same as they do ever other market that they attempt (and sometimes succeed) in monopolising. Any edge they can get with the consumer is a plus, and that means naming a console bigger than it's rival, or dripfeeding press releases about how they're not scared of Sony.
