Lara is back. This Friday sees the release of Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend, the latest iteration in the long-running series recently put forward for a British Design Award.

Check out these new trailers we’ve just received, showing off the new 'ultra realistic graphic engine', Lara’s fluid movement, and massive, errr, interactive environments. Whilst the vids have certainly whetted SPOnG's appetite for Lara's virtual baps, they really cannot be described as 'ultra realistic' when compared with recent offerings from the likes of Crytek. Although comparing any other game trailer to the CryEngine2 trailer is patently unfair.

According to Eidos the game boasts an “intense combat system and a variety of new outfits that show off her best qualities in style.” SPOnG doesn’t think that they are referring solely to dinner dresses and nice shoes, ladies.

There is a lot resting on this game. The most recent Tomb Raider outing, "Angel of Darkness", was pretty lacklustre and, what with Eidos’ other cash cows fleeing the pen (see this week’s poor sales of the once great Champ Manager), the company is pretty much betting the farm on Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend.

As SPOnG has mentioned before, this one is not ALL about Lara. There is a sexy new villainess on the scene, the mysterious Amanda Evert. Well, sexy if you like skinny, mental Goths.

Check her out in the videos right here, along with some good footage of some of Lara’s new combat moves, plus a little tour of the snowy landscapes of the Himalayas, above the game’s mysterious temple setting, located in the heart of Tibet.

SPOnG will have a full review of Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend as soon as we’ve stayed awake all of this coming weekend caning it, dreaming about Lara’s mountainous escapade.

I've been playing the PC version, quite a way into it, and while it's a great improvement on the last one, it (so far), hasn't really offered an experience that differs much from the first few games. I mean, that's kind of where this game was supposed to go I suppose, 'back to basics' for Lara according to Toby Gard.

While it looks amazing, and the controls are much more free flowing (no more resi-tank controls), and you can get Lara where you want her a lot faster and more intuitively, there's always a, 'yeah, but...' feeling in the back of your mind.

It's a solid game, good story, controls well, but there havent really been any stand-out moments, like the first TR was full of, but I could be speaking too soon as I havent finished yet. Yet despite all my niggles, I'm still quite enjoying the game, but I always did like TR (1-4 anyways), and sometimes I just stand around looking at the waterfalls and the landscape.

I should probably get out more. :S
