Family Guy Video Game Announced
There was a TV time, not too long ago, when The Simpsons ruled supreme. And while SPOnG still needs its daily fix of Homer’s buffoonery, there has, over the last couple of years, been a fairly serious contender threatening The Simpsons' claim to the TV Comedy Animation crown.

And no, despite Stefan’s protestations in recent SPOnG arguments about classic telly comedy, it’s not Spongebob Squarepants, which is funny but not Simpsons funny. It is of course, Seth MacFarlane ‘s marvellous Family Guy, featuring that other classic dad-oaf Peter Griffin, his world domination-obsessed son Stewie and their talking, martini-drinking dog, Brian.

2K Games has just injected a small amount of joy into an otherwise drab and sequel-heavy news agenda this Monday morning by announcing an exclusive agreement with 20th Century Fox to develop and publish “some freakin’ sweet” video games based on Family Guy.

Christoph Hartmann, Managing Director of 2K Games, reckons that, “The irreverent and satirical Family Guy humour that has made the show a smash hit opens up exciting and untapped possibilities in game development.” SPOnG will be interested to see how some of the adult-orientated content in Family Guy will be handled in the context of a videogame.

Also, according to the press release just issued by 2K Games, Family Guy “...performs solidly in all key demographics”, which in normal English means that it regularly attracts almost nine million viewers each week.

Family Guy is also notoriously (to certain TV execs shame) the only television show in history to be resurrected from cancellation, based on its blockbusting DVD sales and the strength of its ratings in repeat cable broadcasts.
