A Xbox 360 event in Spain has created some succulent rumours to whet the appetites of those eagerly awaiting the imminent launch of Xbox 360.
Diagrams spotted on a demonstration PC seemed to suggest that a small keyboard can be plugged into the standard controller, and used to send chat messages when playing online. And a ‘technology tree’ clearly mentioned Grand Theft Auto. No surprise there, as the franchise has already been ported regularly to the first Xbox. More exciting is the reference to developer Valve and Half Life 3. The long-awaited Half Life 2 on PC was greeted with near-hysterical gratitude by PC FPS gamers. The hugely detailed environments, textures and lighting would certainly demonstrate the power of the new, fully operational Xbox 360. But it remains to be seen whether Microsoft will ‘do a Bungie’, and make the game exclusive to their console.
Of course, it remains to be seen if any of this is true at all – it’s all based on the eager observations of a sharp eyed hack. GTA seems more than likely, and though the keyboard seems feasible enough, it’s unlikely that many players would prefer it to the hands free Xbox Live! voice support that already exists. As for HL3, we’ll just have to wait and see.
We’ll bring you an update on this story as soon as any more concrete information appears.
