MacLean Walks – Ignition Plays Down Role

No reason offered for split.

It has emerged that famed UK game designer Archer MacLean has departed Ignition Entertainment and his Awesome Studios in a shock move for the 8-Bit veteran.

MacLean and his team recently deployed its latest offering, the PSP-exclusive puzzler Mercury, to a warm response in the US, with a UK version (with enhanced load times) expected to perform equally well on release later this year. However, Ignition has seemingly sought to play down MacLean’s role at the firm, issuing the following statement:

"Whilst Archer was the spokesperson for Awesome Studios, there's a 28-strong team in currently in place and Ignition Entertainment will continue to offer the development outfit creative and commercial support for its forthcoming titles," comments Vijay Chadha, Managing Director, Ignition Entertainment. "We're confident that the Awesome Studios team will continue to produce games which will excite, challenge and delight next-generation videogames players. In addition, we look forward to unveiling the new management team at Awesome Studios. We thank Archer MacLean for his role in shaping Ignition Entertainment into a company primed to become one of the UK's leading interactive entertainment publisher, and wish him every success with his future projects."

SPOnG wonders how Mr MacLean will react to being referred to as a spokesperson rather than a game designer. Especially since he did very little in a spokesperson role…

We will bring you more on this story as we get it. Stay tuned.
