Infinity Ward’s 2003 Word War 2-themed FPS was an undeniably stirring moment for PC gamers. But all good things must come to an end, and Call Of Duty was no exception. Thankfully, E3 2004 has witnessed a life-extending expansion pack in the guise of United Offensive. Packed with more than 10 all new single player missions and nine more multiplayer levels (complete with new vehicles) this is the cue for COD fans to line the streets with bunting and start baking cakes.
There were two of the new single-player missions on show, and they go a little something like this...
B-17 BOMBER MISSION
This level places the player in the gun turret of a B-17 Bomber as it embarks on a daylight raid into enemy territory. A separate character pilots the plane, but there is more to accomplish than just fending off circling Messerschmitts. The player will have to clamber around the insides of the bomber, as it gets peppered with flak, putting out fires and generally trying not to panic like a big scaredy-cat.
KURSK TANK MISSION
This consists of an epic, chaos-fuelled tank battle. Decorated by all sorts of new particle physics, the constant drizzle and ferocious explosions take on even more authentic form than before. New weapons in the arsenal include a gloriously toasty flamethrower and the ultra-destructive Flak 88 Anti-tank cannons. Tally ho!
