Sega and Capcom Team Up

Steel Fang set for PC this year.

Japanese gaming giants Sega and Capcom have announced a collaboration to deliver an online action title for the PC, it has emerged today.

The game - Steel Fang - is an action title said, like almost every game in the genre, to resemble the play mechanic of Capcom’s massive action series Devil May Cry.

A killer team of Japanese artists has been signed for the game, including Kazutaka Miyatake, consultant designer for the Macross and Rahxephon anime series. Character art has been commissioned to Yutaka Minowa of Vampire Hunter D fame.

The game’s history is a strange tale and is diligently explained in the Japanese press release accompanying the announcement. The initial concept was Sega’s, though the firm approached Capcom for a joint project and Capcom agreed. The main development duties will be carried out by Capcom R&D Studio Division 4, the team behind the Resident Evil series.

The game will be an all-online affair and is slated to hit Japan - exclusively for PC at the moment - in May, with beta-tests beginning this month. We’ll monitor the western progress of the game and keep you updated when anything changes.

If this doesn't come with Pachinko Mode, exactly what are Sega contributing?

It was their idea by all accounts. "Hey Capcom, we've thought up Devil May Cry, but with robots. Brilliant huh!" Good old Sega. They could have at least used the brilliant pachinko engine developed for Shenmue 2...
