ECTS Award Winners Announced

The winners of the most prestigious awards in the European interactive entertainment industry were announced in London yesterday at ECTS.

The ECTS Awards - known unofficially as 'Stars' - were presented to the winners at 3pm today in the Grand Hall at Olympia.

The full line-up of winners is: CTW Award for Marketing: Pokemon from Nintendo, MCV Best of British Award: Codemasters

The following awards were voted for by more than 800 visitors to the ECTS
website:

Best Console of the Year: PlayStation 2
Best PC Hardware: Voodoo 5500 from 3dfx
Best Console Game of the Year: Perfect Dark from Nintendo
Best PC Game of the Year: Diablo II from Havas Interactive
Best Reference Product of the Year: Encarta 2000 from Microsoft
Publisher of the Year: Havas Interactive

The Game of the Show Awards were voted for by a panel of 15 European journalists and presented at ECTS to the following lucky winners:
Overall Best Game of the Show: Mario Kart Advance (Nintendo)
Best PC Game of the Show: Sacrifice (Interplay)
Best PlayStation Game of the Show: GT2000 (Sony)
Best Nintendo Game of the Show: Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (Nintendo)
Best Dreamcast Game of the Show: Jet Grind Radio (Sega)
Best Handheld Game of the Show: Mario Kart Advance (Nintendo)
Best Multiplayer Game of the Show: Mario Kart Advance (Nintendo)

In addition to receiving a coveted 'Star', winners of the brand new Game of the Show Awards also won the rights to use the ECTS and Award logos on the product's marketing material.

publications, are:

PC Game of the year Benelux as voted by readers of Power Unlimited: The Sims (EA), Console Game of the year Benelux as voted by readers of Power Unlimited: GT2 (Sony), PC Game of the year Eastern Europe as voted by readers of CD Action: Age of Empires II (Microsoft), PC Game of the year France as voted by readers of Joystick: Age of Empires II (Microsoft), Console Game of the year France as voted by readers of Joypad: GT2 (Sony), PC Game of the year Germany as voted by readers of ZD Net: Deus Ex (Eidos Interactive), Console Game of the year Germany as voted by readers of ZD Net: Resident Evil - Code:Veronica (Capcom), PC Game of the year Italy as voted by readers of PC Zeta: Planescape Torment (Interplay), Console Game of the year Italy as voted by readers of Mega Console: ISS Pro Evolution (Konami), Game of the Year Russia as voted by readers of Game.exe: Unreal Tournament (Infogrames), Game of the year Scandinavia as voted by readers of PC Hemma: The Sims (EA), PC Game of the year Spain as voted by readers of Micromania: Age of Empires II (Microsoft), Console Game of the year Spain as voted by readers of Micromania: Soul Calibur (Namco).

The next ECTS is being held at ExCeL, London, 2-4 September 2001.
