Nintendo of Japan has announced that it has halted all production of its unacceptably small Memory Card 59, replacing it with the high capacity Memory Card 251.

Nintendo had previously stated that it would continue making the 59 in order to bundle it with certain games, as seen with Animal Crossing and Biohazard 0.

And yet there has been no news of the SD Card Reader Adapter that was promised way back in April of this year. As you may remember, it’s a device that reads any kind of generic media stored on Panasonic’s SD cards.

The SD cards are fully PC compatible, meaning that back in April, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata spoke of “…the possibility of making GameCube data prolific on the Internet.”

Hmm. Hopefully we’ll see a price hack for the 251 and an announcement on the future of this intriguing little device in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
