2K Games and developer of Evolve and Left4Dead have sacked community manager Josh Olin over comments he made in regard to disgraced USA NBA team the Clippers Donald Sterling's racist remarks.Sterling was recently outed as having told his mistress that she shouldn't bring black people to games nor to be seen in pictures with them. He's since been banned from the NBA and roundly spoken very badly about. So, what did Olin say to get him sacked?
"Here's an unpopular opinion: Donald Sterling has the right as an American to be an old bigot in the security of his own home. He's a victim."
That's what he tweeted. He also followed up later with:
"Final thoughts: I believe in racial equality & do not endorse bigotry in any way. I also believe in free speech and decry sensational media."
However, in between those tweets, his employer, Turtle Rock
went with this:
"The comments made by our former community manager stand in stark contrast to our values as a game development studio. <1/2>"
And this: "We sincerely apologize for his remarks and in no way endorse or support those views."
To which Olin
responded: "@DalekonDrugs @TurtleRock I'd still recommend buying the game, it'll be a good one. But yes, very poorly handled by malleable management."
We're leaving it there.
